Toyota to Recall more than a Million Vehicles Globally due to Faulty Airbags

Toyota, a renowned and established vehicle manufacturer, said that they are recalling more than a million vehicles in Japan, China, Europe, US and other regions due to Takata Corp’s manufactured airbags.
This expansion involves approximately 1,584,000 additional vehicles in U.S. The following models are included:

• 2009 – 2011MY Corolla, Matrix
• 2006 – 2011MY Yaris
• 2010 – 2011MY 4Runner
• 2011MY Sienna
• 2008 – 2011MY Scion xB
• 2007 – 2011MY Lexus ES
• 2010 – 2011MY Lexus GX
• 2006 – 2011MY Lexus IS

Toyota will send first class mails to owners whose vehicles need airbag inflator replacement, or assembly. Services are guaranteed free of charge.

Several automakers who used Takata’s airbags are required to recall their vehicles under the pressure of US government. The airbags caused 11 deaths and over a hundred injuries. These airbags were said to be “rupture-prone,” which fail to help passengers in times of accidents.

Takata Corp. used ammonium nitrate as a propellant during inflation, without drying agents. Because of that, US officials stated that these airbags will destabilize and explode after exposure to hot, humid conditions and moisture.

Toyota stated that recalled 45,000 vehicles were from their Lexus. To check if your vehicle is included on the list of vehicles being recalled, you can check toyota.com/recall or NHTSA by just keying your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

Takata Chairman and Chief Executive Shigehisa Takada said the company will help during the recall procedure. He also mentioned that the company still remains committed to safety.
To clarify, Takata stated that they will not use bankruptcy as a way of mitigating liabilities.

The Japan-based company is also facing severe partnership fall between renowned vehicle manufacturers such as Toyota, Nissan, Honda, and Ford, all of which announced that they will no longer use the company’s airbags.
