Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has acquired the endorsement of the National Rifle Association (NRA) after his speech during the group’s national convention held in Louisville, Kentucky. NRA is among the most powerful political lobbying groups which has over 4 million members.
“I won’t let you down,” Trump vowed to the attendees. Trump ensured the members of the NRA that he will be a faithful defender of the US Constitution’s Second Amendment. He made sure that Americans will never be “armless,” especially during times of troubles.
The Second Amendment: “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed,” was passed by the Congress on September 25, 1789.
The gun violence mishaps that transpired in the past, such as the 143 school shooting incidents since 2014, have come to the attention of the politicians. Some presidential candidates, especially Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, have suggested that there should be tighter protocols. Hillary would even like to ban the acquisition of gun to decrease the American firearm death rates.
Such move caused the rage of firearm owners, stating that it will be the worst decision that will be made as disarming the entire population could lead to increased death rates as no one will have the capacity to save themselves if accidents transpire.
Trump has slammed Clinton as the most “anti-Second Amendment” that has ever ran for presidency. He has also added that if Clinton gets to become the new president of the most powerful country in the world, she can easily equip the Supreme Court with judges who destabilize gun rights.
Trump has also discussed the recent mass shooting that happened at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, California, where 14 died and 22 were seriously injured. “I would have: Boom!” Trump said while mimicking the firing of a gun. He said that it could have been controlled if there were ample numbers of civilians carrying their firearms during the incident.
Trump has acquired a standing ovation from the NRA members after ensuring them that during his first day as the US President, he will remove gun-free zones in schools and military bases. He also mentioned that he would dismantle various executive orders given by President Obama during his first hour.
Chris Cox, head of the political arm of NRA, stated “[Clinton] has a legitimate chance to be the next president as long as people like us stay home.”
NRA’s executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre mentioned “If [Clinton] gets just one Supreme Court nomination … you can kiss your guns goodbye.”
